You are correct, and yet people should be allowed to practice Islam as long as they aren’t harming others. The same with Judaism and Christianity.
The same with driving a vehicle, owning guns, and consuming alcohol or other drugs. Being part of society demands personal responsibility.
If an individual is failing to be responsible, society should attempt to help them recover stability, rather than punish immorality.

Like okay, you can definitely practice your own religion in a liberatory way…but actual theologians are usually complete wackos.
There is almost nothing theocratic (or even religious fundamentalist) about Israel except parts of the current ruling coalition; this is 100% secular liberal nationalism at work. Y’all don’t get to pin this on religion.
