To make it slightly more interesting look at the edges. I’m not saying it’s related to religion but at least there is a correlation

That’s definitely a factor for Eastern Europe, but so is alcoholism and heart disease as the article mentions.

Religion? I think it’s more a geographical thing. The only country that doesn’t share a border with an other member of its table is Maldives. These countries share far more than a religuon.

Interesting BBC article about the shortage of men in Latvia: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-11493157

The article boils it down to a combination of poverty/unemployment and toxic macho culture, which leads men to depression, alcohol abuse, and risky behavior. Suicide rates are the highest in the EU, and over 80% of those suicides are men. Latvia has the highest proportion of single mothers in the EU.

Nah, it’s largely driven by poverty and war and traditional gender roles. Men move abroad looking for work, leaving their wives back home to maintain the rest of the family. Men seek a temporary escape from poverty by abusing alcohol and drugs, or engaging in other high-risk activities. Men die fighting in the military.

These are cultural spheres and i suspect that’s the driver. Both religion and male:female ratios are downstream of culture, so of course religion and gender ratios correlate.

Iran’s 103 is especially telling - a gulf state, as muslim a nation as any of the other overwhelming male gulf states, but with thousands of years of persian cultural heritage seperating them from their predominantly arab neighbours.
