  • I’ve made several friends over the last 10 years (I’m in mid 40s for reference). Some are my kid’s friend’s parents, some are work colleagues - male and female friends. Generally bond over shared trauma (children and shit that that happens at work) and then keep up the conversation on other shared interests (gardening, history, geology, bread, wine etc.)

But it takes work and support to keep friendships going and many don’t want to put in the effort. It’s not like the friendships you had as a kid where you can now, 30 years later, not talk for the majority of the year and then shoot a message and be instantly transported back to being 15 again.

  • Never had a dentist try to sell me a toothbrush. In fact, I get given a manual one every time I leave. Which I use for cleaning around the taps in the bathroom. But they are always glad I’m using an electric brush. My kids (both under 10) use them too, after they learnt how to do it manually properly (just in case).

    Not American btw.

  • I did, so this was an ironic autocorrect, given the subject.

I do stand by the fact that reading would solve the problem - iO brushes literally have a massive iO on the packaging, so there should be absolutely no reason to buy the wrong ones, and they aren’t that expensive either if you buy in bulk from somewhere like Amazon.

Plus, if we’re talking toothbrushes, electric ones are much better for their consistent cleaning abilities compared to manual ones and every dentist will agree - they can tell instantly what you use as soon as they check your teeth. What is more expensive is dental care required due to improper oral hygiene, so spending a bit more on a decent toothbrush is cheaper in the long run.

  • I don’t trust anyone’s opinion unless it’s based on sound evidence and repeatable results and even then, I’ll only trust the opinions of those who are willing to change their opinion based on new knowledge. So, given that, I’ll trust my young kids opinions on things they have researched and learnt about, or a doctor’s opinion if it’s on something they’re knowledgeable about, and my own in areas where I’m an expert.

How MUCH I trust them is a different thing. If it’s something that doesn’t really affect me if it’s not 100% accurate…meh
