Looked at the article, and it starts off pretty stupid

While everyone else seems to be slugging H20 from 40-ounce Stanley tumblers, I have never understood the appeal of drinking plain, tasteless water all day.

Some people live in areas where the water tastes bad, but seeing the water as “boring” might mean that you’re drinking too much of the other stuff (soft drinks, juice, sugary etc). It’s not that those other things are not hydrating, but they’re unhealthy for other reasons.

The question feels more pressing than ever given rising temperatures, heat waves

I refuse to normalize a world where people lack access to clean drinking water. 😠

The rest of the article is pretty standard advice. There’s no set amount of water that everyone needs to drink, and your diet/lifestyle/body composition/the weather will all play a role. Going based on thirst is a good indicator, but make sure you actually drink water when you’re thirsty. !hydrohomies@lemmy.ml

But using that to justify unequal access to clean drinking water is a big no.

And I think it’s even broader: If I’m drinking water, I’m not buying any other drinks. I’m not supporting the economy, I’m only drinking water.

I’m looking forward to the economic collapse of all junk food & junk drinks as humans get wiser & altogether stop buying that toxic shit.

Truthfully I think although the rising generation is increasingly illiterate, they’ve at least been eschewing alcohol & junk food.

Agreed. They’re outwardly health conscious, although they have no problem putting random shit in their bodies if it makes them healthier.

My generation, we were poisoning ourselves with booze, but we know what booze is.

And if you’re in the subset of people who struggle to register thirst, either through perceiving it as hunger or just not registering it at all; use the pee test.

If your last pee was yellow, drink some water. If clear or nearly clear, you’re fine.

If brown, drink lots of water and pray to Dionysus to become hydrated before the hangover kicks in.

Fully clear usually means stop drinking water for now. It signifies you have had a bit too much water

The author of the article seems to think people use water bottles because they justlike, enjoy drinking water constsntly for no reason. (Its fine if you do) Or some “misguided” advice about how much to drink daily.

When people probably just carry them so when they are thirsty, they have something cheap and not unhealthy to drink.

Going based on thirst is a good indicator,

After many visits for my daughter with different doctors, all of which were different specializations, the consistent advice from all of them was “going by thirst” is absolutely wrong.

They each said if you wait to be thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

You should drink whenever you want to, or are mentally thirsty. That being said, after many years of being a child in school (water fountains tasted like drinking chalk), i had to train myself to feel thirsty again without being dehydrated. Probably a safer bet to just go by pee color or have a cup or two of water at dinner/during exercise.

All the more reason to drink fucking water!

The combination of these two takes has to be among the dumbest things I’ve ever read, what do they think those other drinks are made of? I’m entirely certain that the process of making another drink uses up more water than just drinking that volume of water in the first place.

It just occurred to me that all these people lugging around Stanleys or whatever, I wonder what percentage of them have something other than water in there? 🤔 Sugary drinks, energy drinks, alcohol? Y’know there’s a non-zero chance that some people are merely MASQUERADING as hydrohomies.

I have even better - I3P. Iodine, check. No goiters here. 3, widely believed to be the next highest whole number (citation needed). Phosphorus, check. Good for flower/fruit production.

Put it all together, you might get grapefruit sized growths, but they won’t be goiters.

          Next problem please.

I often add some squash to water, but it barely has any sugar in it and I often go for fairly dilute. Like just a hint of berry, orange or lemon.
