5·1 day agoYeah, honestly if this is a psyop to return a little bit of humanity to the world then I’m alright with it
Is it just that brand? Or does it get repackaged with a million different generic labels?
Cause I’ve never heard of that one but I don’t know if that means I’m safe…
Wait what happened with garlic powder? This shit keeps happening so fast I can’t keep up…
This one time someone tried arguing with me and trying to say that american food is fine and europeans only don’t like it cause they’re snobs and that it should be imported without regulation because “free market” or whatever, and I was just like “my fellow american, I’ve been eating this garbage my whole life and I can tell you with confidence that the difference in quality between it and European food is palpable. You don’t even need lab testing to tell you american food is garbage.”
And he basically just changed his tactic from calling me a snobby european to calling me a euraboo, and continuing to deny that there’s anything wrong with american food and that European regulators are simply trying to capture the market. So I asked him if he’d be alright with importing Chinese cars to the US and he basically had an aneurysm. Fucking capitalists, man…
I was feeling pretty gaslit though. No matter how many facts and research I gave him about industrial practices and corporate capture of regulators, he just kept denying that there’s any problem and doubling down that the real problem is European countries refusing to import this garbage, and waxing eloquent about how the consumers deserve to be able to choose to ear american-produced garbage food if they want to. I kept telling him nobody wants too and he was like “so let people import it,” not seeing how businesses would inevitably choose the cheapest option thereby taking away the consumer’s ability to choose the higher quality locally produced and healthier options…
This took place on lemmy, too. Wasn’t even reddit.

818·2 days agoYou’re against circumcision because you believe it causes autism.
I’m against circumcision because I believe genitally mutilating non-consenting infants is an atrocity.
We are not the same.

It’s not that bad. If an electric kettle runs on 500 watts, and you run it for one hour, then it consumed 500 watt-hours. What’s the big deal?

1·2 days agoWait I thought you said you did get a diagnosis? Or does a “peer-reviewed autism diagnosis” mean you got your autism card from other autistic people? Cause I think I have that already, at least…
And yeah, learning that there are other people like me who understand me and what it’s like to live as a person like me is a really helpful thing. It’s like solidarity in a way. It makes it easier to accept myself for who I am

9·2 days agoI wonder if so many using it almost as the default way of dating makes it harder to find someone for those who want to avoid it.
That absolutely does happen. They’ve done a lot of astroturfing on social media to discredit the idea of meeting someone in person organically. They created this stigma that people who try to do that are “creeps”, when that’s how nearly everyone found their partners until about twenty years ago…

While it is not ditching the requirement for women to make the first move, its female users can now send a template question such as “What book or film changed the way you think?”, using the site’s Opening Moves feature.
I’m going to ignore all the problems in the article, like how it pretends that putting in effort to message someone first and not getting a sufficient reply is some new phenomenon that uniquely affects women 🙄 holy shit

36·2 days agoExcept third spaces have been systematically dismantled by capitalist interests, and the dating app industry’s astroturfing on social media has done a lot of damage to the perceived validity of meeting someone in person organically.
You can’t just say dating apps are necessary because there’s nowhere else to meet people and ignore the fact that that very problem is socially engineered. It’s manufactured scarcity.
Like if nestle were to poison a town’s water supply so that they could sell more water bottles. After buying out deer park, dasani, and aquafina. And patenting the idea of selling water in bottles. You wouldn’t say “actually it’s necessary to buy their water bottles,” you would say “that’s fucked up and should be illegal.”
