If you’re into Jdrama, Gokusen was pretty good. Campy and cheesy when it counts, funny and amusing when it doesn’t, sentimental and cringy just enough to make you embarrassed to admit you like it but not enough to make you stop watching.

Another one called Trick has same main actress and is a little more on the funny side, and is absolutely loaded with the signature campiness that makes Japanese comedy so great. It’s still a drama, but balanced more like Scrubs where you’ll laugh more often than you cry.

If you like the goofy detective in Trick (the same actor as the vice principal in Gokusen), he has a spinoff series called Detective Kenzo Yabe.

And if you like Japanese camp, Legal High is full of it. Different actors completely, and this one’s not really much of a drama. But it’s an honorable mention.

There are of course Jdramas that are more serious and less comedic/campy, but I’m not as familiar with those 😅

I would argue Gokusen is too much of a comedy rather than the drama vibe from the examples OP listed. But I do love Gokusen so if anybody wants a comedy please watch.

Yeah but there’s usually at least one sentimental part in each episode, so it still counts as a drama in my opinion, even if it’s really only, like, mock-sentimental…
