For what it was, The Wiz was pretty enjoyable honestly. I mean, it doesn’t beat The Wizard of Oz, that movie is one of the “Untouchables” IMO, but The Wiz is up there on its own merit as something similar but different. Its its own thing and its cool because of it.
And so many cultural legends too! Diana Ross, Richard Pryor, Michael Jackson, Thelma Carpenter… like, pretty much everyone in the film was monumental in their own right.
I’m sure it doesn’t hold up, especially the treatment of mental health issues, but damn, I loved that movie as a kid.
Edit: So, I went to go look it up to watch it, and what do you know, the movie I’m thinking of isn’t The Wiz, it’s The Wizard… And so, I, in fact, have not seen The Wiz.
