Henri d’Astier de La Vigerie, an ardent supporter of royalism and a follower of Maurras, in his free time used to “scream death to Jews in the Jewish quarter of Algiers.” In 1942, he led a commando to overthrow the Vichy governor during Operation Torch. Later on, he led the Commando de France in Provence, the Vosges, and Alsace. His unit was particularly made up of Jews from North Africa and expatriates.
René Belin, a member of the French League Against Racism and a pacifist during the interwar period, unfortunately joined the Vichy regime and signed the ordinance of 3 October 1940, which gave Jews a “special” status. He fled to Switzerland during the Liberation and was put on trial for his involvement in the STO.
D’Astier just hated Germans more than he hated Jews. Some times, one do right things for the wrong reasons 😅

… I don’t think you understand what collaborating with Nazis entails.
Adding to that, in the interim between France being liberated and the rest of the Allies helping reorganize the country, those who supported the nazis were actively persecuted by the population. So I don’t think the 1940’s Frenchmen found those people very pro-France either.
Actively prosecuted, you mean. It’s only “persecuted” if it’s unjust.
No, they’re two different things without necessarily having moral judgement.
To prosecute means to execute legal proceedings against someone.
To persecute means to harass and harm generally.
For example, a child molester might get prosecuted in court and then persecuted in prison.
Went to check, and Merriam-Webster has similar definitions:
Account created today, just so you know.
Yeah, they made some other suss comments, and there was someone else from their instance, so I checked the instance. Looked, uh, not promising.
Traitors helped Nazis round up and murder both targeted groups and those who would resist.
