Oh, they mean by lobbying and donating to candidates.

I’m more worried about voters asking chat bots who they should vote for and why, and AI companies intentionally manipulating the bots to give misinformation attacking progressive candidates and always recommending whichever candidate is best for AI company interests

Never thought of this but it is a concerning scenario. People really will offload any thinking they can

You know, I work for an IT consulting company and they are pushing AI solutions HARD. And everyone at the company seems to have drunk the AI Kool-Aid.

They’re presenting their progress and various opportunities where they can apply their solutions during weekly meetings and everyone is sucking up to the managers to show how they’re using AI solutions in their daily tasks.

I want to go the opposite way and do a presentation about the environmental and ethical concerns regarding AI use.

I know I’m going to make ennemies in the office by doing that but who the fuck cares if it’s what’s right? And it’s not like I have any friends there or that I wasn’t actively looking for work someplace else.

I read a lot of people have done this.

Tell your boss you want to give a presentation on using AI for your peers. Of course he’ll say yes.

In the presentation, include a few slides warning about the risks of misinformation, loss of productivity, and ethics with stats on energy usage.

AI was never the point. The point is finishing the job of putting everything in the cloud.

Once your shit is on someone else’s computer, they OWN you.

I cannot fucking fathom how corporate America fell SO GODDAMN HARD for putting their literal everything on someone else’s computer.

And then they will pick the winners and losers. And you will rent the privilege from them.

Ever read 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or watch Equilibrium?

There are people there who are just acting. You do take a massive risk, but without it, nobody comes forward. It’s not a good situation we’re in.

Was controlling them by bribery, lobbying, and donations getting too expensive?

The aristocracy has always had an outsized amount of control over politics and society. That it’s still not enough will lead them to ruin.

oh i bet the AI spat out the idea for [blatantly illegal] coordinated donations (which isn’t even needed to violate campaign finance law anymore because of superPACs, but the AI said to do it WITH the superPACs so it must be true) and the techbros decided hell yeah lets do that with our superPACs it must be true!

like this kind of dipshittery, ugh. it sounds like my brother that works for the [state] government
