Confidently incorrect about how fragile some circuits can be. Simple functionality is a convenient illusion we’ve beaten into various squiggles of metal. Electricity is secretly also a radio and a magnet, and even in wires it can’t know there’s nothing at the end until it gets there. Sometimes things just happen.

3·3 days agoPlease stop using the word “distracted” in reference to World War 3.
“For some reason” in this case being, the author was secretly Asa Earl Carter, who infamously declared “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.”
He also wrote The Education Of Little Tree as pure /r/AsABlackMan native American fanfiction.
Atun-Shei has a surprisingly compassionate video about the whole thing. His focus is on Carter understanding and conveying the humiliation of having your whole shitty worldview slapped out of your hands. Gods And Generals is a blustering propaganda piece for the lost cause narrative. Josey Wales is about the little people, and it says, this is what it feels like to lose.

5·4 days agoAnd that’s generally forgivable - if you call it anything else. But naming your thing after a popular thing is a reliable way to get butts in seats, even if you completely bungle the tone, content, setting, and message. It’s how you guarantee “the book is better” instead of “did you know it’s based on a book?”

Good spot on the F1s. Like a Mk 2 with a stovepipe hat. We lost some aura once grenades became plastic bottles full of semtex and concertina wire.

Those are some very American pineapple grenades amid the variety of potato-mashers.

Reminded of an accident on the set of Blade. Wesley Snipes sets a vampire ablaze, and the dude takes a flying leap out a window. The stuntman broke his jaw. So they have to take this guy to the hospital, in agony and unable to speak… while he’s in full-body makeup for third-degree burns. It’s such a surreal predicament that I’m surprised it has not itself shown up in another movie.
