This is probably true. I mean, if I started going off about how the workers are entitled to what they produce and fucking Joanne doesn’t do shit, so why does she get a fat salary while we don’t even get paid for thanksgiving, I’d be fired. Wouldn’t even move the needle.

I live in a red state, and I’d definitely say something similar if a magat tried to strike up a conversation about politics. Most of the time I just don’t have the mental energy to get into a discussion about it.

But sometimes the smaller conversations can change people. It takes a lot, and it can be infuriating when they just don’t get it, or relapse after another bender on fox news, but interactions with people they see as in-group change minds.

I had a coworker way back that was a big homophobe, and over the months we worked together I got him from “we should just kill the gays” to “i guess they’re not hurting anyone i just think it’s gross”. I understand that there’s not always energy in the budget for that, though.

I think there’s a difference between “I affirmatively do not care” and “there’s no purely way to be ethical, and that horror has fallen under my personal bar for attention right now”

I can maybe cut a little slack for someone who’s like “I don’t really understand politics or know history, so I don’t feel confident having a strong opinion” if they were curious and honest. We all start ignorant and not everyone had the good fortune to get a quality education.

But the aggressively ignorant and apathetic can fuck right off.

I will almost never click a video unless it’s a natively visual thing. Like, a music video, a clip of a movie, whatever.

If it’s like “you should learn more about the My Lai massacre - here’s a great video” I’m just going to roll my eyes. Use your words. Embedded media is probably fine. Anyone who seriously suggests privatization should be barred from working in government. They should be fully investigated for conflicts of interest, and if any are found nailed to the fucking wall. They’re thieves stealing from the public.

HR at the horrible mega Corp I work for has been described as “day care”. They all seem to move at a glacial speed, which when you’re dealing with time sensitive tasks I’d say is incompetence.

The few I’ve talked to are nice, in a polite small talk way, but it just shouldn’t take a whole month to go from application to phone screen. Certainly not for internal candidates.

One of the most common sources of alienation for me is seeing what other people, my alleged peers, spend their money on.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if everyone’s spending habits became like mine. Lot of industries and practices would die.

I’ve said basically to my boss at the shitty megacorp like “if I go out of my way to fix things and do more work, I get the same outcome as not doing any of that. You don’t give me paid holidays. You pay entry level wages. We both know I’m going to be laid off in December. So why would I?”

Capitalist hell-scape. Working to make some unseen ghouls rich.

This should be illegal and everyone involved should be barred from working in related fields for life. Straight to community service. Let them reconnect with humanity.

To his credit the guy let us oppose the patriarchy, but it was a huge out of character drain to explain to the other players why I think male headed absolute rule is bad, actually, and I don’t enjoy that in my leisure. It was not the right group for me.

I think sometimes about politics in games. Especially the unexamined kind. Like a guy one time ran a game predicated on literal patriarchy - the story was about how a baby boy was due the throne instead of his elder sister. I’m like … You could have written anything. I don’t want fantasy patriarchy.

Meanwhile, my game right before that was about helping an anarchist collective stop a counter revolution from restoring the despotic monarchy. And my current game the players just shot a surveillance CEO on the street and donated all of the wealth they could get out of his unlocked phone to charity.

People will play this like “Fucking hey! I aced that bike segment first time!” all proud of their gaming skills when the reality is you did absolutely nothing, my brother.

I remember a little indie game predicated on this once. You were shown upcoming game state the player was in, and had to make choices so they’d get the maximum score without doing anything. I was a like Columns or Tetris like game, so you’d have to arrange the board so if they just dropped the pieces they’d get a combo.

Weirdly fun, interesting commentary.

I feel like LLMs would be a fun toy, like a magic 8 ball. I mean, if they could exist without the environmental damage and grand theft of human knowledge. And the risk of AI psychosis. But this obsession with using it for everything is just nauseating.

Those people are embarrassing. They’re probably the same people that say like “Dracula is just a story about a guy who bites people shut up about all this politics and feminism”.

Education is difficult and, in the US are least, under funded.

Capitalism. The people making decisions aren’t the people doing the work. The people keeping the profits (and thus the power) aren’t the people doing the work.

I’m confident that a lot of the stuff that’s unpopular in games was put there because some ghoul thought it would be profitable, and the actual workers didn’t want to do it.

I’m told the mega corp where I work makes people go into the office because the dying town they’re in gives huge tax breaks. So they have people driving an hour in 8 days a month, to work with people that are mostly remote.

Climate criminals. All of them.
