I have never heard of these people before right now, but based on your description it sounds like your question is why would a YouTuber say something hypocritical?

Mostly because:

1. Literally everyone is hypocritical sometimes
2. YouTube incentivises sensationalism

There was a period in the 90s where we were starting to have gay characters, but them being gay was often the joke. Friends is a great example of this.
