In this case it looks like on purpose. Making the punchline look like an afterthought is a common humor trope.

Technology@lemmy.world•EU age verification app can be hacked in 2 minutes, claims security expertEnglish
75·4 hours agoI said it before and I’ll it again, the best solution for this is to have a standard API where device admins can optionally set a age group, and that treats an unset value as signalling unrestricted access. This is so simple it’s almost impossible to fuck up, parents get a parenting tool, most people can just ignore it, and big brother can go on a long vacation.

13·2 days agoHe can disagree with the pope but not disagree with the catechism and still consider himself catholic, and the pope is only restating the “Safeguarding Peace” chapter.

58·2 days agoNowadays you can use systemd-exorcise for this:
exorcisectl --denomination INSERT_YOUR_RELIGION_IDENTIFIER. Please note that some denomination options will automatically withdraw 10% of your yearly income from your bank account as a tithe, and if that fails it will send your server to hell or whatever equivalent you believe in. The command is a no-op for atheists.

16·3 days agoFormally not yet, but lots of people are probably lining up to show that they aren’t really pro-Orban.
People that wander for a living usually live by a combination of charity and payments for odd jobs. For example, a small farmer might gladly part with some old clothes and provide a few meals and a bed in exchange for help with some tasks, and I’ve heard about people with a preternatural ability to couchsurf from city to city.

1234·4 days agoApple Maps’s main data source is OpenStreetMaps which definitely has the villages. So it doesn’t matter when the villages were removed, someone at Apple went out of their way to do it.

World News@lemmy.world•Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán concedes defeat after ‘painful’ election resultEnglish
5·4 days agoThe massive turnout also made it impossible to pull anything funny. It’s relatively easy to slip in a few thousands of fake votes when you control the electoral apparatus, but trying to skew such a lopsided election with such an high participation rate would create participation rates above 100% in some places.

541·5 days agoBut this was already the case. When someone submitted code to Linux they always had to assume responsibility for the legality of the submitted code, that’s one of the points of mandatory Signed-off-by.

10·5 days agoIQ test results follow a normal distribution by design (i.e. they are calibrated so 50% of the people are on each side of 100, and most people land on the middle of the range).
If we are talking about intelligence in general, it’s a very fuzzy social construct that encompasses a wide range of innate and learned skills, so we will never be able to boil it down to an objective number.
How does the phone confirm the payment without a network? With NFC the phone has a low bandwidth connection to the payment terminal that’s enough to sign the transaction.
EDIT: I found it. It uses special phone codes that still use the mobile network to do the payment. If I understand correctly it would still not work in places where there’s no reception, like some large buildings or air planes.
Do the QR codes work without internet? The NFC payment schemes do.
Did you remember to fill out the Willkommenmenschengrößewurstanfrageformulare when you arrived?
You wish you were in The Matrix. The robots on that one were much nicer to humanity than humanity deserved.
Even taking the idiotic “humans as energy sources” justification at face value, the fact they didn’t go all I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream on humanity after humans took the most imbecilic and morally reprehensible path at every turn, shows they got out of their way to not be the bad guys.
