I live in southern Finland and we’re just coming to that part of the year right now. Though it’s not 24 hours of daylight exactly but rather a sunset that turns into a sunrise without night in between.

I need to start coming up with new things because I’ve pretty much achieved everything else already.
Perhaps a second property with plenty of forest as my private playground.
Edit: oh yeah, magic mushrooms
We’re all diagnosed with terminal illness.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK what duper's delight is. People are often smug or smiling while they are deceiving others
822·1 day agoBeing well-informed doesn’t require immersing yourself in an endless stream of outrage, nor does stepping back from that mean you’re turning a blind eye to anything.
There’s a difference between ignoring reality and choosing how and when to engage with it. Most of what passes for political content online isn’t a sober presentation of facts or ideas - it’s performance, manufactured outrage, and algorithm-driven noise. If someone wants to stay sane and focus on things they can actually influence in their immediate life, I don’t see that as sticking their head in the sand. I see it as setting healhy boundaries in an environment that’s often designed to provoke rather than inform.
People aren’t morally obligated to be constantly exposed to negativity just to prove they care. In fact, thoughtful action tends to come from those who can step back from the noise and think clearly, not from those who are perpetually consumed by it.

11923·1 day agoJust wanted to express my wish for people to include this person’s name in the title so it gets blocked by my content filters.
Dexter’s intro is one of those that I never skipped. Oddly mesmerizing. I can perfectly visualize it in my mind even now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your favorite thing to do with another person that doesn't involve your genitals?
6·2 days agoEither having a deep conversation or sharing an activity that we’re both passionate about. Things involving genitals don’t make it to that list in my case anyway. I count those as chores.

15·3 days agoMoney solves money problems. Money is everything untill you have enough and after that having more of it makes hardly a difference. I can totally understand why a poor person wants to become rich. However, I don’t quite understand why an already rich person wants to become even richer.
We’re talking about zombies here - they’re fictional, magical creatures that laws of nature don’t apply to. If it did, we wouldn’t have zombies in the first place.
Zombies don’t have heartbeat, don’t eat, drink or sleep. They decay extremely slowly and can only be killed by destroying the brain.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anyone ever been happy with the work a contractor did for them?
17·3 days agoI get genuine gratitude for my work from my customers every single week. I have gotten gift baskets too and people have even offered to pay more than I was charging. One of my customers recently moved to a different city and is now paying me extra for the travel time just so that they can get me to work on their home because they know I have high standards for quality.
Not all contractors are the same. Some just do it for the money - for me it’s a passion. It’s easy to stand out when the bar is so low.
Highly unlikely that anyone would actually “survive” a zombie apocalypse. It’s more a question of how long you’d last, and for the vast majority of people that would be just days.
For example, if you live in a major city, it’s highly unlikely you’d have enough supplies at home to wait out the initial chaos. Heading to the supermarket to fist-fight over a can of beans, or going to the gas station, is exactly what everyone else is doing too - and that’s where you either get killed by a panicking human or bitten by the infected.
Even if you had the foresight to stock enough supplies to bunker down in your apartment for a few weeks (by far the safest place for you to be), you’d still be trapped inside a city full of the walking dead. The odds could not be more stacked against you.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What would the next pres of USA have to do to gain back trust for America? Hold a televised event saying the last person was just a fuck up?
13·3 days agoMake changes to limit their own power and actually have the spine to resist both the far right and the far left. Anything seen as partisan will backfire on them - no question about it. Arresting and prosecuting the entirety of MAGA politicians, as suggested by many in this thread, is about the worst thing they could do. It would just lead to more of the same, but worse.

It’s almost like some people just live to complain.
