Their location is strategically near the projects/French Quarter. The crack comes from the projects and the money comes from the French Quarter. The problem is “contained”, but that is because the police use questionable techniques to keep the homeless away from upper and middle class neighborhoods.
Honestly, the homeless people might be better off if they were arrested for loitering. When I was stuck in that homeless shelter, the police planted baking soda on me. “The distribution of false narcotics.” I ended up pleading guilty just to get out of jail.

I imagine this is mainly being pushed by the people of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. There’s a bridge near the French Quarter where hundreds of homeless people congregate. People wouldn’t mind, but the panhandling and open crack use looks bad in a city dependent of tourism.
The most interesting aspect of this area-in my opinion-is the army of 10 year olds selling crack on their bicycles. They keep it under their tongue and swallow it if they are robbed or stopped by a police officer.
…this is one of the least offensive aspects of this community. Between the lack of education and widespread acceptance of statutory rape, it’s hard to understand how people could live like this. People from up north don’t understand how bad it is. Forcefully removing these kids from their parents is probably the only way to break the cycle of abuse.

Lol. We are rich enough to leave, but doing so would subject us to a reduced standard of living. Europe seems great, but their high population density is what drove them to colonize America in the first place.

In real life, she is probably a gay male accountant from Ohio. I feel like people in these situations go out of their way to create alternate identities.

Something involving Israel. In my country at least, people who hyper focus on Israel tend to have a lot going on. Expressing any opinion on the issue always leads to controversy and drama. It’s best just not to have an opinion.

This depends on the strategy. If China lowered the prices and waited for the US car makers to go bust, they could then raise the prices as high as they want. US manufacturers would eventually continue production, but things would need to be automated for them to be competitive.
Personally, I think they should allow China to sell small cars in the United States. It’s a product that isn’t currently sold on our market.

Personally, I’ve never not received something that was sent in the mail. I’ve had stuff stolen on my doorstep, but my mail carrier has a 100% success rate at getting things to my door.

It’s not particularly plausible. If you want to stage a shooting, you’d either kill the “shooter” or avoid capturing them.
… regardless, another theory is that this is hate spamming. Alot of these poorly implemented misinformation campaigns serve no purpose other than to torment a person or organization. The lemmy administrators did recently get into a spat with someone who seems…motivated and unique.

There seems to be a coordinated effort to push this theory. I don’t know if it’s strictly Lemmy or if it’s also on Facebook and Reddit as well.
It’s hard to say exactly what they are trying to accomplish. Do they want to actually convince other people that it’s a conspiracy, or do they want to give the impression that lots of people believe in a conspiracy? I couldn’t say.

Despite on what you might have read on Lemmy, most Americans aren’t overtly racist. Alot of people want to reduce immigration, but that is because 80-90% of our total population growth is the result of immigration.
… it’s not just about the impact it will inevitably have on our culture. As automation continues to take low income jobs, we will have a large surplus of unemployed lower class workers. There is a correlation between our low population density and our high standard of living.

…we tend not to care about people who aren’t United States citizens.

Canada has aboot 40 million people, the UK has about 70 million, Australia has 30 million, and New Zealand (5 million) is basically a rounding error. Since the US has over 300 million people, other English speakers tend to migrate to primarily US platforms.
What I find most interesting about these statistics is the difference in population density between the UK and the USA. Although the US is ~40 times larger, it only contains 7x more people.

…and the weather. Canada in general has the same weather as the least desirable US states. There’s a reason the US didn’t take the whole shebang when fulfilling their manifesto destiny.

While you’re correct, the cumulative effect of lower class and middle class Americans on 3rd world peoples dwarfs that of the upper class. It takes a lot of time and resources to maintain the lifestyle of a single person working 40 hours at McDonald’s.
His consumer products were made in 3rd world factories polluting their local environments and the coffee he’s drinking was bought for less than a dollar a kilogram from a farmer destroying a priceless rainforest. When this impact is multiplied by three-hundred million, the effects are as dramatic as they are unsustainable.
…I try not to think about it. It’s a conflict between guilt and gratitude.

It has nothing to do with your privacy. The comment I’m responding to has to do with driving while tired. In my community, not driving while tired isn’t an option. I’d need to spend $70 per day to ride five miles with Uber. “Personalized pricing.”
Before the Internet, kids lived isolated existences that precluded communication. They would sit in their rooms, listen to records, and engage in immoral masterbatory behavior.

If I can’t sleep well at night, explaining it to my boss and skipping work is not an option. I’ll gladly document my occasional sleeplessness and apply for disability, but I have my doubts on whether this will be effective. If you can find me a place to live that doesn’t require work or money, I am open to safer alternatives.
I’m in the same boat. I even tried emailing them my license. There is nothing I can do delete my account from highschool.
