Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon won’t guarantee the cost to fly won’t go up for travellers if the federal government follows through on its plan to privatize Canada’s four largest airports but does promise an improved experience and partial regulation.
In the presence of airport complementarity, when airlines compete in a Cournot type of competition, we find that both countries are best off, in terms of welfare, if airports are kept under government ownership (i.e., manage their airports as welfare maximizers)
