Out of all the artists whose work I’ve enjoyed who turned out to be disgusting creeps, Gaiman is probably the most disappointing. He occupied such a unique position in storytelling, it’s a shame he had to ruin it.
All the nerd culture guys from that era who were making a lot of noise about feminism but actually using it as a smokescreen for being absolute creeps. They’re like a mirror to all the right-wingers who push horrific agendas in public because they hate how much they’re using Grindr.
YUUP.
He was married to Amanda Palmer who was also a kind of feminist icon. We still don’t know for certain if she was aware of Gaiman’s actions or even pushed girls to him. Really disappointing because my boyfriend was such a fan of hers. I sang one of her songs at his memorial service a decade ago.
It’s such a shame about Neil Gaiman, I love his works. I really hope he didn’t do it and that he’ll be exonerated. This is especially aggravating since Tori Amos (who is one of his best friends) is so outspoken against sexual abuse and was abused herself. I wonder what goes on in her head and what the two of them say to each other now.
He is her daughter’s Godfather. They haven’t talked since the story broke.
She even recently sang a song at a concert, that contained references to him, but apparently she changed the words, essentially writing him out of it.
-Source is my wife who is a huge Tori Amos fan.
For those curious, here’s a time-stamped link from her performance of her 2005 song, Horses, from a week ago, on April 10, at UK’s Birmingham Symphony Hall: https://youtu.be/Val33Zcwd34?t=278
4:38, in case the comment breaks the link. She sang, “Will you find me in the battle of trees?” instead of “Will you find me if Neil makes me a tree?”, a reference to her 2012 song, Battle of Trees.
