I’ve been using Arch since I decided to go full-time Linux a year ago, and it’s really not that much work compared to when I tested out Fedora. I run pacman -Syu when I remember to, about twice a week. I update the occasional packages on the AUR once a week. I’ve never had a single broken dependency. Never had to fix graphics drivers (AMD on Wayland, so I can’t say the same about NVIDIA). I don’t even look at the wiki for 99% of the packages I’ve installed. This is definitely made by someone who hasn’t used an Arch-based distro for more than a day.
Have you done a major version upgrade ever? That’s usually the only downside to stable distros, though Mint tends to manage them better than Debian and probably a few others I could think of.
Pacman is the PACkage MANager (lol get it?) for Arch based distros. It would be apt for you. Or, you know, just Mint’s graphical app store + update manager which I have never seen a reason to not use.
I’ve been running CachyOS for a couple years, had a similar experience. There was one time in all of that where something actually broke, and I had to look up how to use my snapshots that I set up a year before and forgot about. That’s been it. Was running Mint before that, not too different (aside from newer versions of apps in the repository, which is why I switched).
I started with Omarchy last March, because I was affraid Arch was too much, but it sounded so nice. So I started with Omarchy,because it was easy to start with. Now I’ve seen that it is not actually that scary, I might switch to Arch and not use the dhh distro. I might reuse some config files though.
Omarchy is a product of David Heinemeier Hansson, who calls for, among other things, the mass deportation of non white folk from Europe and “Western Nations” in general. He’s also transphobic, but that’s a much smaller part of his catalogue of hate than his racism.
I learned that as well. But Arch has an image of being super high maintenance and hard to install, like compiling linux back in the day. Totally invalid image, but it still persists. Anyways, I’m gonna try archinstall in my summer vacation.

I use Mint. I don’t do anything to it. I don’t remember when I installed it, it’s been so long. It just keeps updating.
