Mayor Zohran Mamdani charged Benjamin Nentayahu with genocide, said he is unwelcome in New York City, and called for his arrest. Two years ago, that would have been unimaginable. Going forward, it should be a litmus test.

I think the terms get mixed up sometimes. Israel calls it the war of independence. The displacement was part of “Plan Dalet”. Nakba sometimes refers to the displacement and massacres specifically and sometimes to the whole war.

Don’t get me wrong, war crimes were committed (if that was a thing back in '48 not sure). I just don’t like the characterization that Israel is a terrorist state that terrorizes all its neighbors. This was not one-sided at all.

I mean the city bombings were war crimes after today’s standards. Idk when the Rome statute or Geneva convention were created. Was driving out all the Germans from now Poland a war crime? The death toll was around 400,000 for that.

I’m not a historian idk if that’s just what people did back in the day. Today that would be a war crime.

Indeed, there is a specific definition of genocide and afaict Hamas has met the definition for 20+ years; Isreal hadn’t sunk to the full definition until Bibi finished eviscerating the courts and shoveling fundamentalist BS into the Knesset just a few years ago
