i dont think the situation is very common, USA students going to the EU, usually the ones seeking employment are often at the phd levels, which is another can of worms.
students just get ZEROS for the test, or the course, or they get a notice from the dean. academic dismissal(expel) is usually used for people who are failing thier classes more than a couple semesters. maybe the more prestigious school wil expel people for cheating, but they would probably have to prove it, and then avoid a lawsuit by the students.
