It’s even funnier, since they disallow usage of it if you are from California/Brazil:
“Residents of any countries, states or territories that require age verification for operating systems, are not authorized to use MidnightBSD. […]”.
So the mantainer was is a hurry to implement it for people in countries where it is not illegal to not ask said information.

Currently, it’s only age attestation when creating a user account though, no verification in the sense of someone/something actually checking that the reported age is correct.
Wait until people find out all unix-like systems can “verify” their email address, phone number, or even home address.
Yes, very funny that these fields have existed for decades but no one knew about it, but suddenly everyone is freaking out because a birthday field has been added.
Sure, let’s just pretend that this is totally unrelated to the laws currently being made and implemented that require the operating system to provide user age to applications and websites for age restriction. After all, all those Gecos fields people have filled have been shared across the internet all those years, oh wait never mind, they didn’t, and they aren’t really being used at all.
