“We were at a village that Israeli settlers had destroyed, they had destroyed the school, they had destroyed that village, and we were just looking at it,” said Khanna, a progressive lawmaker from California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“And these hoodlums come in with machine guns – M4, an American-made machine gun – and they detain us. They block off the road. And then they call the IDF and the IDF is on their side, not on the side of the Americans,” Khanna said, referring to the Israeli military.

An aide to Khanna who was in the group, Cameron Kasky, said they were held for more than an hour and made appeals to the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem for help. A group of officers who appeared to be police eventually intervened, leading to their release, Kasky said.

Any other ethnic group in the world would not get the headline term “detained” used for this violent action. They’re civilians, no authority whatsoever. Ethno-state fascists. Religious fanatics.

And yet, the media is afraid to call a spade a spade.

Well, we have an obligation to, under international law.

I was really pisses that Mamdani didn’t arrest and deport (to The Hague) recent Israeli politicians who came to NY to attend a pro genocide parade

That would require the cooperation of federal agencies. I don’t think he would have been able to do that even if he decided to. At the very least, he would need to get them through passport control…

          Why do you think that?

NYPD is one of the largest standing armies on the world. You don’t think they have the ability to contact the ICJ?

Crossing international boarders typically requires going through federal agencies. And when you add extradition to the mix, you probably need to coordinate through the Department of State as well

              No way.

The NYPD just has to take him on a boat into international water, which is a short boat ride for them. The ICJ can pick him up from there.

Coast guard exists, there’s no way this would go as smoothly as you’re claiming. Plus, why are we suddenly of the opinion that the NYPD is any different from any other police force across the U.S.? Why would we assume they don’t lean right wing like the rest of them?
