In Novermber 2025, dozens of families from across India gathered in the capital, New Delhi, to call on authorities to bring their loved ones home as Russia recruits Indians as cannon fodder on the Ukrainian front.

The [Indian] men had been caught up in a shadowy network that brought them to Russia, promising legitimate jobs, but later sent them to fight on the front lines in Ukraine … A common theme emerged: The men had all been forced to sign contracts in Russian that they did not understand and then sent to fight in Ukraine with little to no training.

Well they shouldn’t have drafted their own labourers for this offensive in the first place…

Cheap foreign labour. That is a novel concept. I wonder if it has ever been tried before? /s

What year was it that Rome all of a sudden had a German tribal problem after hiring cheap foreign labour as mercenaries ? Somewhere in the 4th or 5th Century I think.

I think I’d rather be homeless in India than “working in construction” in Russia, if those were the only two options.

The filthy rich in Russia will have had enough of Putin soon, I’m guessing.

This should have been done four years ago. India buys oil and fertiliser from Russia, but Russia doesn’t buy anything from India. That was fine when we could use a third country’s currency (USD), but now we just end up with a trade imbalance. The obvious solution is for Russia to allow more Indians to go work and earn rubles. Then those rubles can be traded for goods.
