Source is Part III § 2 of the US flag code enshrined by 4 U.S.C. § 5.
On the admission of a new State into the Union one star shall be added to the union of the flag; and such addition shall take effect on the fourth day of July then next succeeding such admission.
This isn’t legally binding – you can fly a US flag with five stars representing the CCP and its four governed social classes if you want. But it does represent official federal guidance on the design of the US flag. So if Washington, D.C. were added as a state, you wouldn’t see the 51st star appear on federal buildings until the subsequent Independence Day.
Fortunately or unfortunately, it’s hard to care much about such trivia when it comes to an empire sinking like a lead-infused balloon.
If it makes you feel any better, we were on a very bad course and if theres hope it’s gonna meaningfully change, this kind of catastrophic moment might be the only realistic way that actually happens
Sending love and hugs from a neighbor, take care of youself :)
I think it would be more interesting to know how they handle losing a few stars at this point.
californians cutting a single star out of the US flags they own, dying it red, and sewing it onto a white bedsheet with a bear drawn on it
It’s a neat thought but there will never be another change in the number of states, nor constitutional amendment, nor any significant legislation or sweeping agendas will be happening during the remaining years of our dying republic.
If states leave the union, does this rule apply too?
What if it was more of a take a state, leave a state policy?
one star gets moved ever so slightly out of position
puerto rico and Israel are missing their stars
Israel isn’t a state. The US is a colony of Israel.
