Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Few places nowadays is it legal to lay around & do whatever you want outdoors, usually getting cited for loitering or something. Thank goodness for beaches, we're mostly free here.English
6·19 hours agoOh wow, you just blew my mind. I am in fact thinking about littering! I was a bit suspicious about me not realizing the true meaning sooner, but did not look into it further. This makes a lot more sense now, thank you for clearing this up. :)

27·18 hours agoTIL that “loitering” does not mean leaving garbage in public spaces. Ive heard the term but never expected it to mean standing around idle, this is so stupid.
EDIT: nvm i was thinking about “littering”. english is hard.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who used to criticize AI content and now you like it, can you explain why?English
2·1 day agoIt has never been so over.
My gf has been rewatching “ER” so i’ve been subject to the theme song, but i really do not mind. The theme song slaps. It feels very unique but maybe it wasn’t so much back then and even though I have only watched it indirectly i feel it sets the tone of the show perfectly.
Earth is pretty rad if you take humans out of the equation.

Games@lemmy.world•“I genuinely feel GameNative could replace handheld PCs like the Steam Deck” — Inside Android’s Fastest-Moving Gaming Project, GameNative (my article!)English
2·5 days agoI feel the same. Seems like you can easily install something like RockNIX on one of those handhelds running Android, but having a big name like Valve releasing an ARM-powered Switch Lite looking handheld would really push things.
Cannot remember when the last time was that I was that excited for the future of gaming :)

3·5 days agoI really dig the unique style and more mature tone. Hope Nintendo is trying out new things for their next Zelda game. (Even though I honestly dont see myself buying anymore of their consoles).
This de-compilation is based of the GameCube version I think. Guess so porting it to PC feels more natural.

4·5 days agoYea, its unfortunate that most ROM hacks are built on the ROM itself only playable in an emulator/real hardware. (I mean understandably so, these decomp projects are fairly new). Its just the beginning though I see quite a lot of hacks for sm64coopdx/sm64pc I can see that happening here as well with the proper tools and framework.

3·6 days agoI do love me some /forms!
Just found out that the Gimp alternative “Pinta” shares its name with a rare human skin disease caused by infection with the spirochete treponema carateum (apparently). Which of course is miles better than sharing it with a slur for disabled people, but still not the best SSO.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it impolite to ask someone about their roots?English
42·11 days agoWhen you ask that you are more or less subconsciously confirming your stereotypes you have of certain group of people. When I talk to people why do I have to know where that persons parents are born? It’s just putting people into small boxes they have nothing to do with and I hate being put there myself especially when it’s one of the first question. I prefer asking/being asked about the career and life path.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•I'm still new to the Fediverse. What are your favorite unique things that your instance does? What do you wish was more widely adopted across instances/federated platforms?English
1·12 days agoThat sounds interesting, is it actually integrated into the UI? Or a separate thing?

Programming@programming.dev•What do you want out of a coding monospace font?English
1·12 days agoOh wow that looks pretty and also makes total sense in theory. I think I have seen it in other places as well and might just steal that. :) Thank you for pointing that out.

4·13 days agoYea, as its only applied to italics its less distracting than it might seem at first. Your IDE may not even use italics. In VSCode with my theme, italics are used for comments and variable names, which looks like this:
