There’s a lot more going on here than hints. It’s a nicely layered comic, quite clever.

World News@lemmy.world•American actor George Clooney and his family are granted French citizenship. Clooney previously said that 'his children have a better life in France than in the United States.'English

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•New Orleans ballot for clerk of criminal court runoff election today. Large boxes are city propositions. Tiny box in the top left corner is for the actual runoff...🔎English
01·5 months agoHave you never voted before? That’s a perfectly typical form. Of course the candidates have no text description, there is nothing non-partisan one could put there. Of course the propositions have text descriptions, they always do.
Texas used to, maybe still does. You made me try to look it up and couldn’t find a simple source. Plenty of states use MRSP or some measure of the vehicle’s value.
Back in the day (Tulsa, OK) my friend had a 2-ton dump truck with antique tags (over 25-yo), paid $20. Meanwhile, someone buying a super-light Corvette was paying $650. (early 90s money)
I say go on weight, maybe some factoring of value. Registration fees are paying for roads, if your monster vehicle is doing more damage, you pay more.
Fucking with a coworker back in the day who drove a monster SUV with zero need. I don’t noramlly make judgement on that but I knew the family well. Her husband had a nice truck and their one kid was adult and moved out.
“I drive it because it’s safer.”
“So you’re happy to kill someone in a tiny car like mine, as long as you’re OK?”
<stares motherfuckerly>
“Aren’t you Christian? What do you figure Jesus would say about that?”
“Get out of my office Shalafi.”

science@lemmy.world•Scientists found the missing nutrients bees need — Colonies grew 15-foldEnglish
1·8 months agoFor anyone wanting to save the bees, look into making bee hotels. If you have a power drill and a variety of small bits, easy money. Spend a half hour watching videos, not too much to learn. They’re basically free to make if you can lay your hands on some wood or non pressure-treated lumber. Chunk the old one every year and roll an new one.
Damned cool when you see your first guests having waxed off the entrance hole!

science@lemmy.world•Scientists found the missing nutrients bees need — Colonies grew 15-foldEnglish
1·8 months agoSorta. If you’re a beekeeper I can see this being a major deal. Not clear on how hard this yeast is to grow or how well the process scales.
Bees got a threefold problem, and we need to get at the roots of the issue.

Pesticides and herbicides. Won’t happen, but governments need to ban these products for consumers, restrict them to professionals. Karen and Ken don’t need a perfect lawn sacrificing the bottom of the food chain.
-
We need to grow more, and more indigenous, plants of all kinds. Working on it in my yard, doing well so far. Last year the bumblebees were so loud I thought it was construction on the next block over. :)

Verona mites are a monster issue. They came to America in the 90s and are whipping our ass. Haven’t looked into beekeeping for awhile, not sure where we’re at with that.

When your ass is truly on the line, your brain will take over quite nicely. I don’t mean mere fear or apprehension, I mean, “I will die if I don’t act as needed.” Many go their whole lives without that experience. This is not an “illness” thing.
