As for the rest of your comment, I disagree about the consent being ok based on the age difference, but agree about the power imbalance part. The acceptable age difference in my opinion is:

If both people are underage, a 2 year difference sounds reasonable as you said (but only if both are underage at the start of the relationship, otherwise grooming). If both are adults, have at it, get with a 70 year old the day after you turn 18 if you wish.

My point is Im personally staunchly against separating and mixing different ages for being legally able to do different stuff. While not how nature works, laws need to be written in such a way that they apply the same to everyone, so even if I mature/develop my brain 5 years after you do for example, we both need to have the threshold age be the same for adulthood. Once thats understood and agreed upon, we now need to determine what said threshold age will be. I brought up the example of the USA in my comment above, where they are legally allowed to drive, die/kill for the government, and drink at different ages. I believe youre either an adult or not, at least in the eyes of the law (or at least thats how it should be)

So where do you draw the line? What if a 19 year old dates a mature 14-15 year old? Is that OK in your book, assuming theres jo significant power difference (if you agree its ok, explain your system of measuring ‘power difference’)?

Just because the specific number 18 is a social construct doesnt mean it should be a free for all. We do live in a society after all, and need to draw the line somewhere. Also, because in most countries (sans the US where you can drive at 16, go to war at 18, but only drink at 21) there is a definite line between adult and non-adult(the specific day you turn 18). This is necessary, even if it is a bit ridiculous that im not allowed to do certan things 24 hours before my 18th birthday.

In my country, and most if im not mistaken, if 2 underage people are dating, no one expects them to “pause” their relationship as soon as the older of the 2 crosses the threshold of adulthood, until the younger also crosses it. But if an adult starts a relationship with someone underage, thats not OK, abd you beed to have a cincrete definition of what ‘underage’ is, abd when exactly that is.

I read about this with relation to Malcolm X and Dr. King. Essebtially the point is that you guve the oppressor only two options: violent retaliation, or peaceful pacifyibg granting of rights. Malcolm X was a bigger threat, so the US government chose to go with the less damaging option of Dr. King, abd ultimately the civil rights movement’s goals were achieved (largely, though inperfectly)

In my country (Cyprus) you’re technically supposed to use the crosswalks as a pedestrian (in classic Mediterranean fashion, no one really does, or rather doesnt care about that particular rule), but theres an order of priority for right-of-way that goes as such:

Pedestrian > Bicycle > Car/Truck

So even if not at a crosswalk, if a car or bicycle hits a pedestrian, its the car’s fault, pretty much automatically. Makes sense in terms of children playing in smaller streets in front of their homes.

Government and people are tightly linked. Governments tend not to stray too far from what their people believe, at least openly, since they want to keep power, and their heads. The fact that the US is now openly doing what its been doing for decades behind closed doors and pretending not to do, means that they at the very least hold the belief that a large portion of the population is willing, open to, and/or indifferent to their actions, finally. Makes sense though, since most US americans are disgusting, racist, fascist, self-centred isolationist rubbish, and have been for a long time. The self aware ones, or those who become self-aware after invading some far off country and realising that they are in fact, the baddies (only after torching a village or tormenting the local populace) are few and far between.

YouTube definitely does that. Im on Brave, been for years, and in the past year clicking on videos makes them load with several seconds delay, with a popup in the bottom left along the lines of “Experiencing interruptions? Find out why” and the help page it takes you to if you click it, basically gives the default reasons of “youre internet may be slow”, but IIRC it also includes the reason that you are using ad blocking scripts

I know you may be feeling disappointment and exhaustion from the negative replies, but please dont stop talking about this issue. Im a technical guy. Ive got no problem with - and in fact find it fun to - flash and deal with the problems you describe, but I also desire linux to become at the very least one of the main OSs people use. To do that, I realise it needs to be a simple enough process, which it is installer wise if you have a flashed USB (also not a complicated process nowadays to do). However as you describe, its the hardware compatibility and support from HW vendors that is the main hurdle now.

Make noise. Just like your post. Weve been making noise on the software compatibility enough to the point its now no longer impossible to have a linux system runnung with the software we need for daily life/work/school, but the next step is getting the HW manufacturers on board. I do feel like its a cycle though, of not enough number of users to convince HW manufacturers to officially support linux, and not enough HW support to get the users we need to migrate to linux. Who knows how it will turn out or how long it will take, but for sure we need to be making noise to get the support we want.

By sterile do you mean unable to have kids? Because i seem to remember in the clone wars series there were examples of clones with families. I may be wrong though since its been a few years since ive watched it
