12·5 days agoAlmost everyone have been saying that. Except the oil industry lobbyists.
The concept is much older, but just didn’t have much popularity
My guess is that people who didn’t properly know how to use the phone became angry from their own mistakes and kicked the machines a lot

World News@lemmy.world•Brazil’s Lula, 80, livestreams workouts before election against rival half his ageEnglish
541·6 days agoThe rival they mention is bolsonaro’s son, who is now leading the far right since his father was imprisoned and wants to turn Brazil into Trump’s backyard. Despite being just half of Lula’s age, he looks MUCH older than he actually is (seriously, he looks like a tractor passed over his face, made a u-turn and passed again when he tried to get up), and he’s so incompetent that he wouldn’t ever become someone politically relevant if not for his father’s fame (who’s also dumb and incompetent, but his son somehow manages to be even worse).
Yet, the far right propaganda is so massive through social media, religious leaders and influencers, that this vermin is tied with Lula in the polls…

Bread and circuses politics get criticized, but the irony is that we’re losing even that

Technology@lemmy.world•Internet shutdown in Iran is now the longest in world historyEnglish
331·14 days agoAt this point, the shutdown might even be strategic, to make it more difficult for the us to gather leaked information
But the thing with anything that involves network effect (like any os adoption) is that the growth is very slow at first, but it grows faster and faster as more people get in. We used to be grouped along with “others” in charts, then came the “counted with less than 1%” mark, and it took a long time. Then the 1% milestone, then 2%, much faster than from not counted to counted, then 3%, faster than it moved from 1 to 2. Now stats vary from 3 to 5 %, depending on the source. It’s getting really fast, and will grow even faster. This is a very significant difference

World News@lemmy.world•US intelligence says Chinese satellite imagery of bases is helping IranEnglish
13·14 days agoOh, that kind of super-resolution has been gaining media attention, but there’s much more beyond the “ai”. There are several mathematical methods, based on inverting a point-spread-function, statistical methods, super-resolution based on extracting subpixel information from a sequence of low resolution images, and several other methods and approaches, including the use of machine learning, but not in the generative way. It’s a very diverse and complex field of research

World News@lemmy.world•US intelligence says Chinese satellite imagery of bases is helping IranEnglish
12·14 days agoFor people who don’t know, china doesn’t have satellite imagery with the same spatial resolution as the private companies like planet labs (the one recently prohibited to publish imagery from the war region) do , but they have been investing a lot into super-resolution technology to compensate. This is much more interesting than it can look at a first glance.

Better not look under your bed, and remember to cover yourself entirely with a blanket of magical protection. Remember, just a bit of an exposed body part is enough to nullify the blanket’s protection.

2·17 days agoThe space race and proxy wars were a huge part of the cold war, and now, many things point to some kind of new cold war. I’m surprised by the amount of people claiming that there’s no connection.

1·19 days agoJudging by the quote, they’re likely going to bluesky. They will say that mastodon has a too restricted reach. It’s like a pattern. Every time I see someone coming with that “there’s no ethical [thing] under capitalism”, instead of promoting the anticapitalist things or the most ethical choices, they use the phrase to justify using another capitalist thing.

They’re among the ones getting paid by the lobbyists ;)
