Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Favorite read of the year? Favorite recently discovered author? Recent book surprisingly made you DNF?
11·25 days agoOP, from China Mieville, let me suggest “the city and the city” a sort of detective story in a city that is split in 2 in a incredible and original way. I liked it more than embassytown
At the moment I’m reading Blindsight by Peter Watts, pretty mindblowing story about what life, what is conscience, what is real and what not. Still halfway

11·1 month agoIn Italy road rules are generally regarded as mild suggestions. Bikes and motorcycles on zebra crossings, cars engage in junctions even if they are not able to free them before red lights, causing gridlocks, and many things even much worse than that.
It’s a general problem, but people driving cars as assholes are concretely more dangerous.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•The lollipop people crisis: what does the road rage against them say about Britain today?English
13·2 months agoI agree, but cars are the perfect booster for this behaviour: people is isolated from outside, protected with an heavy metal box that can move fast, scare people, act as a weapon, take a lot of public space. Without cars and car culture, the entitlement would be much weaker, and less dangerous
It is bad because what happened with Elon could happen in the first place.
One person can control it and do what he likes with it, that’s bad

1·2 years agoTotally agree. That part is awful.
But the general ideas behind the trilogy are completely mind blowing and extremely clever, and I find it difficult to find something similarly breakthrough. Maybe the space Odyssey series?

Yes there are vampires, and at the moment (70% of the book) I still dont completely get why, honestly… But I’m sure I’ll understand 😁
