I’m disabled. I basically can’t leave my bed. A normal mouse and keyboard are awkward to use. This controller would be perfect for me.
I know this from using my Steam Deck all the time. But it’s getting a bit heavy. With the Steam Controller I could have my display and controller independent of each other.
But I will miss the Steam Deck’s easy zoom feature (holding it closer to my face) that aided my failing eyes. But both Steam and KDE have software solutions for that that I can hopefully map to the controller pretty comfortably.
If it’s any consolation, I have the controller in my cart since release, have enough money in my Steam wallet, and I still can’t buy it. Tried often enough.

Wondering where they got the driver from, or if they made their own.
Probably from https://github.com/evlaV or directly from Valve’s packages.

That is basically the current state of the Steam Deck’s controller driver.
You probably could already find the new controller’s driver in Valve’s repositories and compile it for your kernel. Maybe Bazzite and Co have it already integrated. No idea. But if that isn’t the case it’s just a matter of time.
I am jealous of you mr fuckwit mcbumcrumble.
These monuments are some of the most blatant fossil fuel propaganda to hit the mainstream.
Why is anti nuclear propaganda always portrayed to be pro fossil fuels by nuclear proponents?
Cleaner alternatives have been available for quite a while now.

I got one on ebay a couple of years ago. For me the missing d-pad is even shittier.

I actually tried to do that but I didn’t find where the buttons and axis are defined.
On the Steam Deck you can switch to a pure gamepad mode by holding down the start button. They first implemented that with Steam running and later added it to the Linux driver so that it works even when Steam isn’t running.
I would be very surprised if they don’t do the same with the Steam Controller.

I’m talking about the Steam Deck, which is pretty similar to the new controller.

When you check KDE’s gamepad page without Steam running it appears like any other controller. Back buttons are just additional buttons.
It’s a shame that the capacitive joysticks aren’t buttons as well. And I’d expect the gyros to just appear alongside the other axis as pure numbers but unfortunately they do not. Same with the touchpads.

They discontinued it many years ago after they were hit with a patent lawsuit and sold off their remaining stock for 5 € a piece.

Honestly, getting rid of the “original” requirement and resorting to emulation is probably the cheapest option by far if you have a controller and computing device you can hook up to a TV.
I’m stuck on that screen as well even though I had added the money to my account last week already. It’s not (only) their processor.
In the EU it switched to 6 to 10 days. Hope I can get it before it’s out of stock here as well.
In the US? Seems to be still in stock in Europe. But I still have a hard time ordering despite preloading my account with enough money.
Had the same idea but I still can’t order.
