World News@lemmy.ml•Hundreds of migrants swim from Morocco to Spanish enclave of Ceuta
6·7 days agoThat’s precisely right. It’s colonialism, but you have to read it not in isolation but in context of current events. When has the US ever come out against colonialism? When have they sided, say, with the Sahel states against France, or with the Palestinians against Zionist occupation? The US is simply angry at Spain for not allowing the US to use their airspace against Iran, for openly making modest noise in support of Palestine, as well as for forging closer ties with Algeria, which will never be forgiven for expelling the French (same as Haiti in that regard).

There is nothing wrong with migration in and of itself but this must be seen in context. US imperialism, through its stooges in Israel and Morocco, is encouraging migration for multiple reasons, among them to stoke right wing sentiment in Spain - hence, the talk from some US politicians and pundits about how this wouldn’t have happened if Spain had its own Trump. They are trying to weaken Sanchez and improve the standing of Vox, Spain’s right wing party. They won’t be happy with Spain until it gets its own Milei at the very least.
