Unfortunately there are a lot of niche subreddits which aren’t duplicated on lemmy. it’s the difference between connecting with certain people, and not connecting at all. But if we share information on how to undermine reddit’s efforts, maybe it will cause them lose grip on their monopoly over online forums and google search results.

81·3 days agoFrom a time / money standpoint, it’s costly to create an account on reddit. You have to have a certain account age and karma to even post in a lot of subreddits, which is an investment of time. Spammers replace time with money buy purchasing access to clean IPs, paying people to set up accounts and spam for karma. The only people who are going to create new reddit accounts, at this rate, are those expecting some kind of return on this time investment.

Fair enough, the Lemmy community it’s exactly 0.3% the size of the reddit version, but I’ll check in on it and participate.
