  • But that’s the thing, I’d rather do that be the guy that pressed the big red button on a bunch of kids. And it would set an example, which hopefully others could follow, but even if it doesn’t that’s fine with me.

An example that is oddly close is Montréal’s rent increase refusal process. We have a system where we can refuse the rent increase and then the landlord has to justify it. The power dynamics are totally fucked, though, and a lot of people are scared to do it, especially if they don’t know anyone else who has. Even still, many people have done it and overloading the system has brought real change. Like the military example, there are huge consequences(in this case it’s related to having shelter) but you still gotta do it. There are tired poor people at serious risk of losing their homes who are braver than these soldiers.

  • But that’s just it, the US had this strong pro-labour stance, so much momentum, and then they threw it all away and now it’s about what your boss “lets” you do.

But they won’t even have those discussions outside of work. I have a theory that it’s because if they’re progressive outside of an exploitative power dynamic then it’s much harder to handle if when it’s happening. It’s like their lives are in constant justification of why being taken advantage of is “actually normal” and why they say shit like “that’s life” or “in an ideal world…”. Easier to submit than fight*.

*Clarification: “fight” here could literally even just be voting progressive since that’s a completely secret thing. I’m not saying we gotta be raging at our bosses or trying to imply that everyone is in a place they can even speak honestly, safely.

  • To put it more directly, anyone with a political ideology based on having a position relative to two or more other positions seems constantly so desperate to appear like an enlightened, balanced thinker while also having a political that’s nearly entirely worthless. They’re great at voting against stuff but their spines are jelly and it’s so fucking hard to get them to commit to fuckin’ anything.

And it carries over in their lives! Trying to get a hard opinion out of them on anything is so hard! They’re so scared of being “wrong” that they constantly half-ass everything they do and I’m so tired of it. Just commit to something, please!

(Maybe we need to start running actual super far left parties in the world to centralize regular leftist parties to get these people to finally behave lol)

  • In what way? The die tell you success rate so you can’t just say “I succeed at everything” and you use your creativity to bring it all to life.

Your comment as written, especially with the clear example in my first comment, reads like “I’m not creative enough to work within the system”. I’m guessing that isn’t your point but I’m not sure what else to read it as.

  • People desperately need to understand that mechanical rules are there for balancing and taking them so painfully literally just isn’t necessary.

You only get one unarmed attack on the dice, but if you want to say you did the damage in two or three hits instead of one then go for it, it literally does not matter. You can even say you missed one attack and them wound up for a sneaky second one!

Follow the rules for number related things and roleplay and tell a story for being cool related things.

  • Leftwing architecture is mixed-use, walkable neighbourhoods and community centers built with artistry in mind. It’s beatiful decor to old buildings that feel lived in. It’s parks and bus stops and bike lanes.

Rightwing architecture is a functionally dead grass lawn and a house so perfect that it feels not only dead, but oppressive. It’s replacing a slightly ugly group of three or four stores with a chain restaurant and a parking that generates less tax revenue for the city than the “shitty” stores did. It’s the old, dilapidated neighbourhood that’s falling apart because the city is too busy spending everyone’s tax money subsidizing the rich neighbourhood, then taking photos of only it and claiming that it’s better. No sidewalks, no nature, no way to get around without a car and nothing to do once you have one except a 45min commute in traffic to get to work.

  • The problem with this is that it overwhelmingly targets muslims. Christians don’t wear specific things as part of their religion(and will conveniently get passes for “cultural/historic reasons”, I doubt they’ll be too mad about the stuff that the jews in Mile End wear, and they’ll certainly not change the crazy catholic names of many of the schools and hospitals in the province, but they will and have fired people over the hijab.

It’s a blantant attack on a specific group because the CAQ is a useless, racist organization intent on letting the entire province fall to pieces because they only have a handful of angry, misfiring braincells between them.

I also think religion is dumb but you don’t solve it this way. The CAQ spends more energy on this than it does fixing the healthcare issues and that’s so fucking embarrassing.

  • If I sighed any louder I’d shake the paintings off the wall.

The Conservatives are not a valid point of reference. The fight needs to change to be between the progressives in the NDP and the conservatives in the Liberal party and constantly dodging that only serves to validate the Conservatives. You don’t fight the far-right by treating it like a serious ideology while dismissing the progressive options.

I’m also not surprised that he’s doing well in the eyes of Canadians, most of us are incredibly poorly informed. Hell, I’m telling you guys here all the terrible shit he’s done and you’re just walking right past it, but if I bring up the NDP ya’ll will find any reason to claim they couldn’t lead, even if I could shut it down quickly with simple google searches.

  • Read my other comment in here. Thinking Carney is doing good things for Canada requires a heavy amount of not paying attention to what he’s doing. He’s literally running the Liberals closer to Harper-era Conservatives than anything and we desperately need aggressive progress, not weak, middling responses.

If “Canada will unconditionally supprt the US in its attack on Iran” is what you call a strong response I mean fucking yikes, dude.

  • Look, as much as I’m sure you aren’t wrong about it being a conservative mouthpiece Carney is just a really shitty person who has no idea what he’s doing actually running a country.

Interestingly, the Liberals are barely left of the Conservatives but if people start seeing them as functionally the same as Conservatives then we become a proper multi-party country again, and if we’re lucky we even start seeing the conservative vote being split while the NDP enjoy some space. This country is only going to get worse, in the way it’s been getting worse in front of out eyes for a long time now, if we keep this up.
