Americans, especially the Government, all have a collective delusion that the United States place in the world is just the way it was right after WW2 and nothing will ever change it. Over the next decade or so, reality will continue setting in…

2·9 days agoMinecraft hunger games, h1z1, the culling.
These were all created after the original PUBG, which was an Arma mod created similar to DayZ. This existed as what we know of battle royale before any other clone, and it was also created by PlayerUnknown.

5·9 days agoWhat was unique about the PUBG / Unreal Engine situation is that Epic had only used the Unreal Engine for things like Unreal Tournament. They have a large set of customers who license their engine. When PUBG, which was originally created as an Arma mod (like DayZ), was moved to a standalone company by PlayerUnknown, they began looking for engines to rapidly rebuild what made Arma special. The bullet physics, look of the engine, environment and so on. They chose the Unreal engine.
PUBG took off as soon as the demo was released. There was an ongoing business relationship where PUBG developers worked with the Unreal engine developers to add features to the developer tools, and changes to the engine, to support features that PUBG needed. These changes of course were merged back into the main Unreal engine branch, and this allowed Epic to take the work for a battle royale game from the business association with PUBG, and rapidly cash in on the battle royale craze with Fortnite. It probably only took them 14 days to create it with all the work that PUBG had funded with modfying the engine too.
That’s what is different about this, versus just a company creating a clone. It was a dangerous thing to do from Epic’s point of view too because I’m sure there could be cases where other customers could see the engine company help them create an initial product, and then use that work to rip them off with a clone.
From a business practice standpoint, this is similar to what Amazon did with Amazon Basics. Where Amazon became the main, or only, online marketplace for many products. They ran reports and data to find which third party products were selling well on their site… And then they set up stuff like Amazon Basics to essentially copy them. Eventually due to the price and shipping advantage, and the Amazon name, the original products get replaced. And it feeds into Amazons profits.
Now with AI, all someone has to do is find out which games are popular and then drop some money on tokens to try to vibe code a competing game.

politics @lemmy.world•Hillary Clinton: Biden reelection campaign a ‘terrible mistake’
83·9 days agoThe fact is that they all worked together to give Trump both his first and second terms. The Clintons and Trumps are still very close behind the scenes. A lot of 2016 was just theater. The Comey stuff, on and on. Then 2024, no Democratic Primary, keeping Bidens condition hidden as late as possible. Trump could’ve jut as easily run as a Democrat at one point in time. This is a symptom of money corrupting politics too. All of these people have similar financial backing and interests.

At the end of the day, they want to force feed everyone advertisements. Often meant to make people angry or buy shit they don’t need.
It’s also why apps like NewPipe are in an arms race with the recent sideloading app changes for Android.

241·16 days agoIn many places, there is no legal obligation for police to collect evidence in your favor, even if they know it exists.
Also, and this is very difficult to accept for a lot of people, but the truth doesn’t really matter in many cases like this. It’s always malicious prosecution because like all of our politicians, the justice system is made up of people who are backed by various financial and political interests. The system makes up its mind for what it is going to determine the truth to be as well as the legal process necessary to get the pre-determined end result. The police, DA, Judges, etc, all work together every day.
You basically have no rights and if you ever call the powers that be out for violating them, they will just throw various forms of immunity back at you… From qualified immunity to sovereign immunity, 11th amendment protections and so on.
The shit you see on TV is just copaganda.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What will happen when the AI bubble bursts?
6·1 month agoWhat’s more interesting is that the AI fueled replacement of human labor is happening along side the largest global rebalancing of trade and finances in history. It could be argued that the U.S. is entering a phase of readjusting to not controlling all of the international trade and being able to run endless debts by doing it. At the end of WW2, the U.S. was able to set the terms for many countries. The contrast between these changes in reduced funding to social welfare programs, which the eventual collapse of the U.S. bond market will force as there will be no money to pay for much besides an outdated military and the interest on the debt. To keep the party going they massively hyped up AI and dumped even more imaginary dollars into it, hoping to be able to replace the need for workers. Creative ways of keeping the bond market bubble going crossed over between these two issues. One example is how tethered currency to the dollar for things like USDT have behind the scenes been funding an increasing share of Treasury debt. It’s all one big interconnected house of cards where at the root of it is an idea based off having exorbitant privilege with a reserve currency. Where you can create this imaginary private company called the Federal Reserve which has magic balance sheets that can act as a second unlimited treasury, while feeding the debt issued by the primary treasury. All of this money just moves around causing inflation and higher interest payments. A system like this will have to collapse at some point and with all the international finanace changes happening, it’s only a matter of time.

politics @lemmy.world•Tennessee Republicans redraw maps to erase last Democratic, Black-majority district
03·2 months agoAll of these articles fail to mention that since 2007, Tennessee’s 9th district has been held by Steve Cohen… Who by all accounts is not a black man. In fact, since 1823, every representative has been white, except for Harold Ford and Harold Ford Jr, who were more of a political machine who represented the white areas than real representation of the black people of the district. Even then, they were only in power for about 20 years out of the time since 1823. This parallels what happened after reconstruction failed… Just using the system (gerrymandering) to disenfranchise other than polling taxes and literacy tests.
