Funding schools by highly localized tax isn’t universal. The US adopted it to make sure less affluent areas have worse schools. I believe the UK does similar things, but they also want marked differences between public and private school alumnus.

And most importantly: relentless lobbying by the wealthy to get rid of those taxes.
They’ll probably try to argue the war powers act “clock” resets with the name change: look, totally different operation, we have another 90 days… And if they get away with it, expect a new stupid name regularly.

Some would argue it misses the topic, but I’ll offer the Unix text editor wars. Vi vs. Emacs is pretty much the epitome of a pointless religious war in people’s favourite activity, though for some that’s obviously their job.

Nah, the reason is the Byzantine law enforcement structure in the US. You can’t just say “the police” because they have so many officers running around enforcing parts of the law that are not police. FBI, DEA, ATF CBP, ICE and god knows what else are state agents, are involved in law enforcement and are all arguably not police.
So to get a proper generic term, of course they add another TLA to the alphabet soup.
