I unfortunately can’t understand this viewpoint of it. There’s a myriad of other things which people enjoyed as children which they grow out of naturally, lose interest in, dive into something better, or abandon when it comes apparent that people involved were awful. It’s not difficult to pull away from it unless, perhaps, you made it your entire personality which is indicative of much more serious issues.

It looks like what they’ve done is capitulate to transphobic bigots.

Which is weird because there are much better books to read. There are even books that don’t start to completely fall apart when you think about them for more than five minutes. There’s yet more books where they’ve done a basic amount of research of how names work in different cultures so that they don’t make mistakes like “Victor Krum, the Bulgarian”.
