Hardware@lemmy.world•Milk-V Jupiter2 is mini PC with a SpacemiT K3 RISC-V processorEnglish
6·2 days agoThe fact that this has an sfp+ port makes it instantly magically interesting to me. Probably not gonna be practical, as risc-v generally isn’t yet, but I do love where this is going.

3·3 days agoIt’s just one decimal place, not 2. So it’s 250 papers with 2 or more fake references.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What does your IPv6 setup look like?English
2·3 days agoUntil very recently, I exclusively used the /56 prefix I get from my ISP exclusively. This is still relatively annoying in my case as this prefix changes at least daily for some reason. Clients get their IP via SLAAC.
I’ve added ULA literally less than a week ago as I have a local reverse proxy I want to handle both local and external request, in both v6 and v4. Obviously more hosts should be accessible from local clients. But I can’t tell local clients apart except by IP, and since the prefix is unstable this would require some sort of hook to update the proxy with that new prefix (might be possible, but seems like a real hassle). So here we are.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•We should push other phone OEM's such as Fairphone and Samsung to work with PostmarketOS, GrapheneOS, and Ubuntu Touch
51·7 days agoYes, and I don’t know if it could even be classed as a collaboration. They just buy them and resell them with different firmware, basically?
I assume some part of acceptance is required for that in practice, but it isn’t like Fairphone ever advertised them as an official option (as far as I can tell or saw).

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox Has Quietly Integrated Brave's Adblock EngineEnglish
8·20 days agoNo company that doesn’t allow you to install browser add-ons will allow you to run a pi-hole instance. Not on your machine, and much less as an actual pi plugged into their network. If you did plug an actual pi into the network it would probably reason to be just straight up fired.

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox Has Quietly Integrated Brave's Adblock EngineEnglish
8·20 days agoI wouldn’t think so. I would also assume that direct DNS requests to external servers aren’t allowed in the firewall. But even if they are, they probably can’t use a non-company DNS server if he needs to reach internally hosted services. So it would at least require using different browser for internal and external browsing, assuming DNS requests to external servers really are allowed.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Proxmox audio for all guests solution?English
2·1 month agoThe arch package has to be built somehow. You could look at that packages source and/or content to figure out how to manually do it on your system, or wait/hope the deb is being maintained and gets fixed.
It’s likely mostly some plumbing, like a systemd service with it’s configuration, to get the audio routed properly.
Just to clarify since it barely came up: NFC can be used for a lot of things, digital payment just being one use case. You can also have “tags” that trigger some sort of automation when the phone is placed there (like on the phone holder in your car, on your desk, on your night stand). You can use it as a key to open doors or locks (bikes). You can transfer your contact information to someone by touching phones together. And so much more.
It’s a universal way to communicate (very) short distances, with the unique property that the reading device can provide power to the item being read if needed. Not a lot of power, but no batteries needed at all for the passive side in many cases.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't spaceships rotate to cause artificial gravity?
7·1 month agoDoable, not practical. Another major concern is the induced dizziness and general discomfort from such a small circumference. If you stand up straight, your head moves significantly slower than your feet. There are more effects that humans don’t do well with.
In addition keep in mind that this implies significant mechanical complexity the moment you don’t rotate the whole craft, but only a section or ring. If you do rotate all of it, simple tasks like taking a photo become… cumbersome.
Also like others have said, it’s not a permanent residence for anyone, and the main goal of the ISS is the study of low- or micro-gravity.
Somewhere between zero and 16. There is no “usually” for me.
There’s also a dedicated recipe in “bottles”, which I think is based on it at least in part. As I’m trying to move away from fusion, I haven’t tried it yet though. Apparently it can work, but can also randomly break with updates…
There’s also In shape, which has it’s down sides (some go away with money), but also runs anywhere bring browser based. One of the more obvious down sides is that it’s by definition cloud based.

0·3 months agoI know that isn’t the point of your comment, but what issues do you have with Logitech hardware on Linux? I have just mice from them, but honestly an embarrassing amount. I just use Solaar and I can configure all I need? I also have always only used the onboard memory (so I can move them between computers), and don’t really use macros though…

Games@sh.itjust.works•Sony Delists Original Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, Forces PSN Requirement for RemasterEnglish
0·2 years agoKinda wanted to pick the game up at some point. Weird, I seem to have suddenly lost all interest. Huh.

I’m probably not “the norm”, but the only mainstream social media I have ever used was Reddit, and that stopped like whenever the first big exodus happened (2 years? I think?). I never used Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram or whatever else was oo still is used by people.
Now I’m assuming you mean “conversational” platforms that are mostly for talking to other people (or corporations these days). I do watch YouTube (not shorts), but to me and the way I use it that’s closer to watching TV.
