1·13 days agoDrops of God. 👍
You’re right, of course. But I also think it would open up a giant loophole for the wealthy. A car is essential for survival! A three million dollar car? … A 15,000sqft house?
Of course, they could set reasonable limits. But when was the last time congress was reasonable?

Technology@lemmy.world•Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents have one year to find new power as their utility pivots to data centersEnglish
4·2 months agoThis is the play. They are giving up $3.3B (?) in incentives to the get the data center, which will strain the power grid and cost citizens. Why not (bribery) invest that in the power grid directly so it can support both, and monetize on it. Almost nowhere has the power needed for these data centers, so advertising reliable power would be a big selling point. And you can charge them enough to recoup the investment over time, and the citizens they are supposed to represent would actually benefit.

I’d be pissed if it was my editor. A compiler used on a global scale would make sense.

4·2 months agoThe high deductible is the insurance company taking advantage of you. The fact that you can save for that tax free does not offset that you shouldn’t have to pay for it in the first place.

Contractors get paid directly with no taxes taken out. They must deduct it from their pay themselves.
Employees get taxes deducted before they are paid.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What band did you hear one song of, check the rest of their music, and find it was a one-off and none of their other music sounds like that?
3·2 months agoDax - Dear God.
It’s an amazing rap song about question beliefs. The rest of his music is mostly country.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I become a sea boat worker
8·2 months agoAs someone who has felt exactly the way you describe and am now on the other side of it, here’s my advice.
- Do not give up or shy away from that feeling that you need to completely get away from your present surroundings. You don’t want to look back in 10 years and wish you had taken the opportunity when you could.
- Don’t foolishly think that getting away like this will fix everything. It will help, but new problems will also emerge and if you haven’t addressed the demons in your head, you’ll never truly escape them. Therefore…
- Get the treatment you need and make sure it works before you end up in the middle of nowhere with no options and no escape. The gun is only a concern because it’s convenient. When you’re desperate, anything becomes convenient. The ocean becomes convenient. Get your brain fixed.
- If you already tried to get your head right and it’s not working, get to a state where Ketamine is legal and schedule an appointment at the clinic. It is life changing and worth every penny of the $2400 it costs.
- See number one. Fucking do it!
