Stage 4 sucks even worse than that.” It’s kind of weird that you think any comments that aren’t just constant, overt condemnation are ‘defending’ or reminiscing about the good ol’ days
Stage 1 cancer isn’t as bad as stage 4 cancer. But without stage 1, there wouldn’t be a stage 4, so it’s weird to defend stage 1 and reminisce about how much better it was.
Except nobody is defending anything. It’s perfectly valid to say “wow, remember how much stage 1 cancer sucked? Stage 4 sucks even worse than that.”
