You’ll have to dig up every document to prove your line of ancestry back to Canada. Word of mouth is not enough, they’re looking for certified birth/death/baptismal records. If your ancestry comes from Quebec, this means possibly parsing through liturgical French
Be warned that the cost and processing times for these have skyrocketed recently. The cost for a record from the BANQ went from around $30 to close to $300 iirc
