The United States of America has already won the war. The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline lies idle, and EU countries have imposed extensive sanctions on Russia.
What American strategists feared was a Russia–Germany tandem leveraging Russian energy and German technology.
And now Germany suffers because it can’t access Russian energy. Win/Win for the US.
I think that’s a short-term victory, though. In the long run this will drive the EU away from the US.

Russia has been getting its cheeks clapped pretty hard by Ukraine lately. I am sure the Russians are looking to grab on to any little successes they can to try and break out of their current death spiral.
It’s cute that the Russians are still using the word “liberate” to describe the capturing of foreign territory in an illegal land grab. Reminds me of when a pickpocket “liberates” a wallet from a marks pocket.
