While, yes, there’s survivorship bias in such statements I think the stats also showed the chances of contracting a second infection was also lower than a vaccinated person contracting a first infection.

That’s not really surprising. A vaccinated person’s immune system has just seen a single protein, whereas a COVID survivor’s immune system has been trained on the whole virus. I would expect it to perform better.
