Dude… I’ve seen the photo. It wasn’t ok. The only context that could possibly help is if the woman in the photo came out and said “I was aware of the joke prior to the photo and consented to it”. Even then I would find it to be really distasteful. I’m not saying he should be in a cell, I’m saying it was a weird and gross thing to do and I’m glad he stepped down, even if he was good in other ways.
He was several feet away, he wasn’t anywhere near her, it was a trick of perspective. You are judging and dismissing a good man’s entire career and life based on a trick photograph.
The joke was a bad one, but it should be remembered that he was on a USO Show touring foreign bases in war zones, and those shows, going back to the 40’s, were always ribald comedy, featuring bombshell female celebrities, when they could get them, (Marilyn Monroe for one), and Playboy Playmates (often) when they couldn’t. That was her role. The general vibe of the show was risque humor, and that’s going to be the vibe backstage as well. She admitted that she gave as good as she got on that tour.
It happened years before he was a political candidate, and she was perfectly fine with it for many years, until she became a regular on Hannity’s show, and a MAGA operative. So she found this photo in her scrapbook, and exposed it. Later when it literally destroyed him, she publicly admitted that she never meant it to go that far, and regretted it.
Franken would have taken on Trump for president in 2020, and can you imagine what those debates would have been like? But Schmuck couldn’t have a progressive getting too froggy, so he did was he does best, and destroyed the career of another good Democrat.
