I noticed recently that someone I blocked in the past was able to downvote my post. I thought if you block someone, they shouldn’t be able to see my posts at all? We are on two different instances if it helps.

That’s crap. Thank you.
No, doing anything else would be crap. You are free to ignore whomever you want, but demanding right to control what others see is insane.
No. I should be able to stop other users interacting with content I create if they interact in bad faith.
No, you should not. You have a control over what you want to see. You are not in control of what others want or can see and demanding otherwise is just laughable. Once you publish something on online discussion forum, people can see it. Deal with it.
Can you read?

Hmmm. You may want to check !comicstrips@lemmy.world , where OP keeps posting comics that are allowed by the mods but clearly very unpopular with the community.
I can. Can you? The fact you are mad you can’t censor people does not mean i can’t read.
I misread the following part and mixed up people, op was not op of the linked post, the post was actually about him and he does not like it.I apologize for the confusion.
Tap for spoiler
So i used my power of reading to check what the problem is.
https://multiverse.soulism.net/c/comicstrips/p/105344/please-ban-comics-by-bigoted-artists
You want to ban “bad artists” from the comics community and you are mad you can’t do it.
Here is a solution to your problem. If you really do have “consensus” as you claim, take all the consenting people, go and make your own comics community, with blackjack, hookers, and your own rules you can enforce.
That is how it works.
Good. Now read again as you definitely had the wrong end of the stick.
Ehrm, no. Quite the opposite. I want whingers to stop seeing comics I post so they stop moaning.
Touché, my bad.
The rest however still applies. What you are demanding is not possible and never will be (for good reason).
The only way you could achieve what you want is either with action of the mods, or by establishing your own community, where you can ban whomever you wish.
Why do you want to violate other’s autonomy?
Do you try to control the actions of other people to conform to your personal will in real life to?
If you don’t like what someone is saying or doing you always have the option of ignoring it and moving on with your life.
Edit:
Weird, you seem to have understood the concept here. Wonder what happened to make you suddenly change tack.
Careful, OP’s sensative and they’ll get mad if you call them out for being a hypocritical toolbox.
Guess they’ll just have to block and move on with life.
I don’t think that they’re physically able to, seeing as they’re still arguing with all the ‘moaners’ 🤔
Is it?
Everything is inherently public. Every post and comment is available to anyone with an account and everyone without one. All one would have to do is log out to see all your stuff again. You can’t really block people from seeing you, when everything is always public.
It’s crap that I cannot stop them interacting rather than just seeing.
It’s actually better. If they were prevented from interacting with you, they could just make another account and continue.
This way they don’t know they are talking to the void.
That’s where the philosophical argument comes in.
If you don’t want to see something or comment on it, that’s your choice. But it’s not a choice you should be able to make for others. They have the right to express themselves, just as you do. You wouldn’t be happy if someone silenced you. If they trashed you and you couldn’t respond because they “blocked” you.
True, but that is not what the aim was. I see your point though.
It’s more like “mute” than block.

I agree with you and did some. looking around. Mastodon at least has hard blocks. If nowhere else does, I’ll be switching
edit: mbin/kbin appears to be a bust. they support hard blocking but only within their own servers
How does it work on other instances? Let’s say I have an account on Mastodon and I post something on lemmy.world? I understand there is cross posting etc but what about cross blocking?
homes replied to my other comment that it’s different between instances. we’ll have to read about each ones to see what does what.
you misunderstoood-- it’s not different between instances. it’s just not how lemmy blocks work anywhere on lemmy. it’s a platform issue. different platforms on the fediverse like mastodon or pixelfed may handle blocks differently, but, regardless of the lemmy instance (or piefed or mbin which interoperate with lemmy), all blocks work the same way: they’re one-sided.
okay. thanks for clearing that up
