    Because I managed to internalize the Catholic morals I was raised with instead of just paying them lip service. Going to university and getting out from under that mental blanket helped a lot.

    Also, the whole gamergate controversy snapped me out of whatever conservative mentalities I had when I saw the type of person I was becoming.

      Damn, I’ve got no problem with conservative or liberal people as long as they’re not extremist or try to impose their beliefs on people’s lives

        Yeah, I agree, but this part is just about always not the case with open conservatives in my experience. My entire chosen family is lgbtq+, so I get to see the real side of conservatives more than most do. And after seeing the lengths they will go to punish people I love for the crime of existing outside of their heteronormative bubble, I don’t really give them the benefit of the doubt.

        People who are still (or have been for about a decade at this point) openly conservative know the type of people they are teaming up with, so there’s no question on where they stand in my mind
