Beijing says it is barring a group of New Zealand lawmakers from entering China for having visited Taiwan in May. It is the first time such a ban has been imposed on politicians from New Zealand.

The political and cultural history of mainland China and Taiwan is really interesting. It’s easy to say they just want their fabs but I feel like the struggle is more so about legacy. The CCP gaining control over Taiwan would indicate they are the one and only true China spiritually and philosophically at least to themselves. It’s a fundamental split and both consider themselves the real or true China.

This is muddying the waters a little. Technically all the CCP has to do if they want to be declared the only China is allow Taiwan to officially renounce their claim and declare that they are a separate and independent nation. Unfortunately the CCP has been very clear that they will invade if that happens.

I’m not sure it’s clean and easy like that. A rose by any other name smells just as sweet. I see it more like a classic battle between two very similar yet different individuals over ultimate legitimacy, like the fight between Romulus and Remus, although this will likely have a different ending.
