Maybe to most Conservative westerners. I’m always a little puzzled about why American = Redneck Republican to foreigners, at least the ones who comment a lot on social media. I guess it’s only fair since we think French = Snotty Waiter.
The issue is that there are also many “progressives” who are like this, ex: supporting the kidnapping of the president of Venezuela or the invasion of Iran. Just because someone might be less bigoted to queer people or immigrants it doesn’t mean they’re any less imperialist, unfortunately. And this isn’t just a problem over there of course, I know too many people from my country who side with our comprador elite rather than workers like them.
