Maybe the kid’s parents should learn to do the right things to keep them safe

It should be obvious now what those things are

They only understand when it personally affects them in some capacity.

I keep this image saved on my phone, because it is relevant way too often:

The study asked participants to mark the farthest region from center that they cared about. For instance, marking 4 means you also care about 3, 2, and 1. Liberals largely marked high numbers near the perimeter. Things like “all sentient life” or “all life, including non-sentient”… While conservatives tended towards marking low numbers near the center. Things like “my extended family” or “my closest friends”. So yes, in fact, many of them genuinely don’t care unless it affects them (their family or closest friends) directly.

Another fun fact is that liberals scored 20 points at the highest, while conservatives scored a 12. So not only do they only care about themselves, they don’t even care about the people closest to themselves as much as liberals care about people they don’t know

I vaguely remember seeing that before, I know that studies of people’s brains shows an actual, physical difference. With the centers for emotional response, especially fear, larger in typically Republican voters while those left of them don’t have as large portions.

When those in power choose to ignore the people they represent, then what other options are there?

Essentially you’re saying elected representatives can use their children as human shields so they can do whatever they want.

Oh I don’t know, off the the top of my head… Elect people who will represent the people accordingly, run for office and be the change you want to see, move to another town/state that is more in line with your beliefs. It’s certainly not to assassinate those and their family members that I feel aren’t living up to my standards.

Essentially you’re saying elected representatives can use their children as human shields so they can do whatever they want.

Never said anything remotely close to that.

And you’re saying thise kids deserve to have their lives endangered because of whatever stupid decisions their parents are making? The kids don’t have a say in anything, and they can’t leave! This person was too much of a coward to take this action to wherever the councilperson works. Nobody cares about innocent lives lost anymore.

And also, the more this sort of thing happens, the less people will want to put their families in potential danger. You will get fewer good, quality people running for any office.
