I use voyager and don’t see display names, but I’m willing to bet the person with a Chinese display name and shitty parents is @DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works
Clearly I also spend too much time on here lol

They’re absolutely right about the packaging for many distros needing work - I’ve been using sudo-rs as a replacement for sudo on arch for a long time now and it’s been great, except for the install. Installing this and removing the original sudo was a pain in the ass and requires installing the original sudo first to get the default configs. If this changed, I think a lot more people would try it and adoption would benefit a lot.
I don’t like small talk and avoid it with people who know me already, but if I’m masking and talking to a stranger I try to replace it with another meaningless question that’s less personal.
What question I end up going for is pretty context dependent, like if someone just arrived somewhere then “get here okay?” or similar questions about their transit are an easy replacement that’s a lot less invasive imo.
If the person has made any conscious fashion choices I notice and like that’s another easy one, though ‘conscious choice’ is key (“I like your hair” or “nice stickers on your water bottle” are good, but “you have nice skin” is serial killer vibes imo).
Finding alternatives requires a tiny bit of thought each time, but imo that’s what communicating with another person should need.
“How’s it going?”
Using this as a greeting with “good, you?” as the conventional answer is so stupid but so normalized, I feel much more strongly about this than it actually justifies lol
Ofc not, fuck calendars. If we let the calendars exclude you from this we’d be letting them dictate our lives still
So happy birthday today (and every other day) :)

This was a worthwhile read, even if my reactions were either “why tho?” or “please don’t” for most of the points lol
Great news, thank you!
Anybody who doesn’t block Google mind giving a tldr?

One value that really shapes most of my other beliefs is that my moral system should be internally consistent. It’s caused me to try to consciously rethink all of my beliefs and values, and discard or refine any that are inconsistent and add others that were missing.
I don’t really think I’ll ever get to a point of all my beliefs being conscious ones and all my values being objective, that’s not really my aim (or even realistic imo), but it’s changed a lot about how I act and view right and wrong and it’s a process I don’t plan on ever stopping.
This is fully a guess, not familiar with the codebase at all, but I assume it’s because the account is new rather than running image transcription and filtering given how expensive (in compute) that’d be

That sucks, but if you can only have one color tattoo that seems like the perfect choice even if you didn’t know that going in lol
I’m not normally a fan of tattoos (pretty ambivalent overall) but I really like that one and the added meaning for anyone more up to date on their ochem than I am is even cooler 😂

What molecule is the flower one? That looks sick

Then maybe you shouldn’t be teaching middle school???

From this kid’s book, though idk if it’s in the book or related art

I prefer this to a bloated windows-only shit app that has to run all the time and slows down your pc, but I’d LOVE to see them open source the launcher (and have suggested it to them before) so self hosting it offline is an option and their keyboards become immune to enshittification after purchase.

Luckily with the open source firmware, their existing keyboards are pretty immune to enshittification. Still not looking forward to it happening, but there’s less risk in their keyboards than in any closed source company
I mean they generally do aim for a specific spot so the ships can be nearby to pick it up, so even aiming for the ocean a perfect bullseye is a valid thing to say lol
Idk how relevant this is given you’re on .world, the largest instance, but when an existing community that nobody on your instance is subscribed to gets its first sub on your instance, all the existing posts get pulled in and show at once in the feed. On a comparatively smaller instance like mine, I definitely notice when someone local first subscribes to an existing comm if I’m browsing all - so it’s not always someone being inconsiderate, sometimes just a quirk of federation

I want to like it, but they block most of my vpn nodes so I can’t see half the content on the fediverse 😭
I appreciate you for fighting the good fight here, so please don’t take this as criticism:
This shit is colored like the Epstein files lmao
