Don’t worry, once GitHub CoPilot fixes the issue (that it rolled out directly into production), everything will be back to normal!

Television@piefed.social•Jodie Sweetin Reveals She Received One-Cent Residual Check For ‘Full House’: “There’s no syndication anymore because it’s all in streaming. Who gets paid for that? Nobody gets paid for that.”English
6·22 hours agoExpired copyright means others can make new content, not that the people who made the original content can no longer receive residuals.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Starbucks CEO defends a cup of coffee costing $9English
9·1 day agoHe’s talking about the Starbucks experience he has. Headquarters will always be the perfect Starbucks, and if he goes to a real shop, it’ll be a newly opened one with a new special item. He doesn’t go to the actual shops people probably associate with Starbucks.

Linux@lemmy.world•UPDATE YOUR DISTRO - New Linux 'Copy Fail' Vulnerability Enables Root Access on Major DistributionsEnglish
9·2 days agoIf you don’t have the algo_aead kernel module enabled, are you still vulnerable to this? Any systems don’t show it in
lsmodwhenever I’ve tried, does that mean most computers are OK?
Back in the Python 2.7 days,
curl | grep shwas the standard practice for installing the package manager, pip. Even better, the shell script actually had a binary blob somewhere in the middle. It was shell script up top, binary blob in the middle, and back to shell script at the bottom. Until Python 3.5ish, pip wasn’t bundled with Python, so this was standard practice.

Technology@lemmy.world•Claude Code refuses requests or charges extra if your commits mention "OpenClaw"English
91·2 days agoIt used to be named “Clawd”, intentionally trying to mimic Claude Code. Claude Code was, until they accidentally vibe-released the source code, a proudly closed-source AI client. So OpenClaw is very intentionally marketing themselves as the anti-Claude.

Technology@lemmy.world•Canonical lays out a plan for AI in Ubuntu LinuxEnglish
18·5 days agoIf you want what Ubuntu promised, use Fedora. If you learned a bit after trying Ubuntu, use Debian. If you tried Ubuntu and kinda miss the ease of Windows, use Mint. If you think all of these options sound way too practical, try anything but Arch.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you know any tricks to disenshittify a work computer?
3·5 days agoYou can watch YouTube in DuckDuckGo to the same effect as you mentioned in the description. A boring answer is that you can install basically anything if you can get access to cmd, power shell, or terminal. You can also install almost anything to user space instead of for all users. On Mac, this is kind of a hidden feature now, but you can make a
~/Applicationsfolder and put apps in there. Generally, if you ask IT, they can be helpful. “Hey, I need uBlock Origin so I waste less of my time at work.” isn’t going to make anyone blink twice.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Adopting Claude speak in regular life
6·6 days agoClaude is almost always the better model compared to GPT. I find that this is a good leaderboard. However, both Claude and GPT have similar business models: make sure everything they do is completely proprietary, and keep everything behind a monthly paywall. They both run massive data centers to train their models, and neither really deserves the term “Artificial Intelligence”.
I would argue the overarching story across Resident Evil isn’t that important. The first 3 are kinda close, but the rest take place across the world and there’s a new virus/outbreak each time. The only overlap is the characters. They’re all very different games, RE1 and RE4 have basically no overlap in play style, so pick what looks fun and start there. Odds are you’ll never get around to playing them all.
I’ve never used a Wacom tablet, I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one, yet I know they did some weird shit in their drivers because they always get their own section in settings for any OS.

Technology@lemmy.world•SpaceX says it has option to acquire startup Cursor for $60 billionEnglish
9·12 days agoCursor is basically obsolete now. It was always going to become obsolete once standard VSCode extensions could do the exact same thing. Now there’s like 4 first-party extensions which can basically do anything an AI asks for. Now, configuring basically any AI model takes minutes with Continue, and doesn’t require installing a new program with sketchier licensing. If they make an IPO, it’ll just be to get a cashout and let the suckers foot the bill.

News@lemmy.world•An unintended consequence of US immigration policy: Some fans are skipping the World Cup in the US
6·12 days agoIt’s somehow cheaper to attend a Formula 1 race than it is to watch a soccer game. Formula 1 became famous for being one of the richest, most exclusive sports there is, and soccer became famous as the sport that’s so cheap, anyone can become involved.
What would be the point of that?
This car says tracker on the outside, but modern cars have trackers everywhere on the inside. Capitalism just keeps innovating!

It’s not that bad once you accept that there is no correct answer for what should be considered “1 length” unless you want to use Planck units, which are absurdly uselessly large or small.
